* Braced for Impact!

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, . . .
2 Corinthians 6:17

There is a spiritual war going on in the spiritual realm that is being manifested in the natural world.  Right before our eyes, we see a dying world; dying from sin and degradation, we see the ravages of war, we see and hear of the senseless, tragic killings and deaths, the suicides of children and adults, epic economic decline and a seemingly unrelenting plague, and, if we have any spiritual discernment at all, we see the loss of hope in this world today.

The body of Christ is to be advancing the Kingdom of God.  Instead, there has never been so many downcast, depressed, angry and bitter children of God!  It can only be concluded that there are some things missing in the spiritual armor – we have not completely sold out to God.  We have not braced ourselves for impact.  Instead, we are just as caught up in the things of the world as the world.  We think like the world and we react like the world.  What happened to the joy of the Lord being our strength?  What happened to knowing that He that is within us is greater than he that is in the world?    Here’s the problem:  We know that we serve a God who is in full control, who can do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or even think:

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Ephesians 3:20

We remember that first part but we forget to apply the ending that states 'according to the power that worketh in us'! The power working within us is the spirit of God. Without it, we cannot brace ourselves. That’s why we’re walking around angry, confused, bitter, depressed, and downcast. We have yet to tap into or activate the power within us. The Holy Spirit will lead and direct you; you’ll know when to pray and what you should be praying for, what you need to hold onto and what you just need to let go of. We need to ask ourselves are we following Jesus' example, are we walking out the example given us in the gospel? Think about it, Jesus slipped away and prayed, Jesus had a servant mentality, Jesus loved, Jesus gave of himself. Are we doing these things on a consistent basis?

If we want to be battle ready; braced for the onslaught of the enemy, at some point, we make up our mind, like Joshua:

. . . choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.  Joshua 24:15

If you haven’t chosen, do as Joshua said – this day, chose whom you will serve in other words, which side will you be on.  In chapter  24 Joshua lays out God’s resume – how God:

took Abraham and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.
brought the Israelites out of Egypt
          And when they cried unto the Lord, he put darkness between them and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them;
And how he brought them into the land of the Amorites, and gave them into their hand, so that they could possess the land; and he destroyed them the Amorites.
How he would not allow Balaam to curse them; but rather bless them
And how God gave them the strategy to defeat Jericho and a host of others
And He gave them a land for which they did not labour,

God’s resume is impeccable.  God demonstrates a solid resume.

When we give our life to God, we have to Brace our self for impact against the war that the enemy through the world is waging against us!

Peter tells us to arm ourselves for suffering even as Jesus suffered.

Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 1 Peter 4:1

Look at the resume that God presents of Himself:

 lifter of our heads,
a keeper,
 You are a sustainer,
 a mind regulator,
 a comforter,
                    a bringer of peace
a supplier of our every need,
             the lover of our souls
      prince of peace,
the King of kings and Lord of lords,
the great ‘I AM’       the one true living God
      the creator,
             Burden-barer,
the author and finisher of our faith,
beginning and the end, alpha and omega,
      fortress, our strong tower,
             mighty savior, our counselor,
            wonderful, awesome and
            magnificent one,
There is none like Him; not above or beside
             Him,
      Rock and shield,

There is none like Him; not above or beside         Him,
            Incomparable

That’s God’s Resume!   Our desire should be that no matter what it looks like that we come out on the winning side.

Here’s the blessing of being aligned with God; it automatically puts you on the winning side.  One truth that we should know is that God is unchanging and that His will, His ways are trustworthy, flawless, unfailing,

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.  Hebrews 13:8

As long as we are in His will, we are guaranteed the promises God has made to those who belong to Him; His elect!

God is not a respecter of persons as Apostle Paul points out to us:

But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good; first to the Jew and also to the Gentile:  For there is no respect of persons with God.  Romans 2:10-11

Earth has no situation that we can go through that God cannot fix.  It takes faith to know that God is able.  One way we increase our faith is through the hearing and reading of the word.

There is such a wealth of knowledge found in the word of God – inspired by God and written by true soldiers who they themselves went through horrific times!  Peter tells us:

But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.  1 Peter 5:10

Those are truths that we need to acknowledge!  We can’t become downcast and discouraged as we fight this battle.   Even if our troubles seem to have no spiritual connection, we still look to God knowing that no matter what our circumstance; He’s with us.  Apostle Paul got to a point in his journey where he was able to say:

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.   Philippians 4:11-13

Our testing, trials and sufferings should bring us into a closer relationship with God as we trust Him in His sovereignty! Apostle Paul experienced God so much in his life that he was further able to say:

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

Job, in spite of all he went through; was able to say:

Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: . . .  Job 13:15

We should never back away from our commitment to God because of our circumstances or the pocket of resistance we encounter. There should always be a praise in our hearts and on our lips for God's goodness, His mercy and His grace toward us. Considering that our life could have gone in a totally different direction; on our way to a devil's hell. We could have been on the 'left' path instead of the right path.

I believe there are promises of God in store for you and me; promises designed to allow us to be victorious in this war!

God speaks to us and lets us know that He does not change.

For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Malachi 3:6

He lets us know that He is not a man that He should lie:

And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.  1 Samuel 15:29

We all know people who have reneged on their word, but it’s a wonderful thing to know that we have a God who does not go back on His word.  If He said it, that’s it and that settles it.  God’s word is already settled in heaven.

Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.  Psalms 119:89

When we renege on our promise to God, it automatically puts us back into enemy territory where it is all too easy to get caught up again with the cares of the world.  But, the bible tells us:

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.  If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.   1 John 2:15-16

The world is puffed up; proud and overcome with the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life!  Just think about all the scamming that’s going on, the cheating, stealing, grifting, embezzling, etc. that’s going on right in the midst of this pandemic!  Believers must contend with these forces every day!  And if you’re not braced for it, you will be negatively impacted by it.  It seems that sometimes we are bombarded by a host of enemies when in reality, there is only one enemy. But he works with and through a mighty force of demons.  Satan not only uses demons but he also works through the evil forces of the flesh and the world to the detriment of our soul!

We are physically standing on hostile grounds and surrounded by evil influences. The world and the flesh are enemy territory and we are at war with them both.

The word ‘world’ in this context is used to refer to the present condition of human affairs in opposition to God.  It is this system that runs the inhabited earth, a system that is opposed to God; our Lord Jesus Christ.  The 'world' is the corporate group of flesh-centered individuals who make up the human race.  Flesh, in this context, is not referring to the actual flesh of your body. It is a term which describes the basic evil human nature of man which is in willful disagreement or rebellion against God; the nature that overtook mankind when Eve allowed herself to be deceived by the enemy which led mankind to forsake the image of God.

As your enemy, the world is the whole organized system of social, economic, materialistic, and religious philosophies which have their expression through organizations, personalities, and governments. It is not a specific government, organization, or person, but the worldly system upon which these are based.  The world system is an extension and a result of man's departure from the likeness of God.    It surrounds man with that which appeals to his fleshly desires.  Guess who’s over it!  Satan, the "prince" or ruler of this world:

Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.  John 12:31

All the kingdoms and systems of the world are influenced by Satan. They are guided by Satanic philosophy and principles. They are flesh-centered and flesh-governed, that’s how Satan could tempt Jesus with it:

Again, the Devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto Him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.  Matthew 4:8-9

We have to brace our self until Jesus takes control of this world:

And the seventh angel sounded: and there were great voices in heaven saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever.   Revelation 11:15

Although Jesus reclaimed the world from the power of the enemy.

And having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:15)

Satan does not yet acknowledge that claim. Satan still is at work in the world with his evil powers. Satan will not acknowledge the claims of Jesus over the kingdoms of the world until the final conflict.

The present situation is similar to military conditions that often occur in the natural world. A political or military power will take control of a nation but their claims will not be acknowledged by rebel troops within that nation. The rebel troops continue to war throughout the country. They try to take possession of territory not rightfully theirs and overpower the citizens. They often use tactics of terror to accomplish these purposes.

The situation in the spirit world is similar. Jesus reclaimed dominion over the world, the enemy, and his evil forces. But Satan and his rebel troops still war throughout the world. They try to take possession of territory not rightfully theirs and influence men and women for evil. This battle, which is our "spiritual warfare," will continue until the final conflict.  But God, in His infinite wisdom, lets us now about the world so that we can brace ourselves against its ungodly influence over us.  The world structure is in direct opposition to God, His plan, purposes, and people:

®        The present world system is evil:

Who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father.  (Galatians 1:4)

®        The present world system is without God:

That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: (Ephesians 2:12)

®        There is much deception in the world to ensnare believers to become part of the world system:

For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. (2 John 1:7)

®        The world is already judged and under condemnation by God:

But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. (1 Corinthians 11:32)

The "elements of the world" refer to the elementary principles that govern the world and that lead to bondage:

Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. (Galatians 4:3)

The principles of the world are the regulations on which the world structure rests. They are different from the principles upon which God structures His Kingdom:

Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances. (Colossians 2:8,20)

®        The spirit of the world is in direct opposition to the Holy Spirit:

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.  (1 Corinthians 2:12)

Philosophies are principles of knowledge. The bible tells us to be weary of worldly philosophies because they are not based on Christ:

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.  (Colossians 2:8)

®        Worldly wisdom is not God's wisdom:

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. (1 Corinthians 3:19)

The "course" of the world is the cycle of the present world, its routine, the way in which it operates:

Wherefore in times past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience. (Ephesians 2:2)

®        The many "voices" in the world are contrary to the voice of God:

There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification. (1 Corinthians 14:10)

There are many voices in the world and they all mean something to someone. Some to pull, lure and attract.  You have to know the difference.

®       The peace of the world is temporary, fragile, & sometimes deceptive:

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.  (John 14:27)

®        Godly sorrow differs from that of the world:

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. (2 Corinthians 7:10)

®        The world hates God:

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.  (James 4:4)

®        The world hates believers:

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own; but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. (John 15:18-19)

Think about the ways, the actions, the thoughts and ideas of the world.  They are under the influence of the enemy.  The world is not in the image nor the likeness of God and neither are we if we align our self with the principles and standards of the world.    Is there any wonder that God says to come out from among them?

Knowing all of these things, you can effectively brace yourself for the impact of the satanic influence of this world and wage a defensive and offensive warfare against the enemy based on the strategies of God.

* Heaven Bound

But our citizenship is in heaven.   And we eagerly await a Savior from there,
the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
Philippians 3:20–21

While some believe that Heaven is a state of mind or at best, a mystical place , as believers of Jesus, we believe that Heaven is real and is a place that is reserved for those that have lived life according to the word of God that guarantees our entrance there.  Apostle Paul says that we "eagerly await" a Savior from from this place called heaven. Eagerly await  implies hope or, better put, earnest expectation of something believed to be imminent.  It is a heightened level of anticipation hearing or seeing something.

It means to focus on something to the exclusion of everything else. Those believers who understand the second coming are consumed with it. Developing a focus on the second coming is crucial to a heavenly mindset.

However, there are far too many that do not focus on the soon coming Savior.  This is probably the reason why many believers don’t have a heavenly mindset and do not live purified lives. They have lost (or never had) hope in the second coming of Jesus. Jesus makes this abundantly clear in a parable He gives to the disciples about this very thing:

And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?  Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.  Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.  But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;  The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.  And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.  But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. Luke 12:42–48

The servant in this account had lost sight on the fact that his master would one day return.  The servant lost an expectation of the master’s coming. Because of this he cast off restraint as he lived in discord, waste, and sin while blatantly ignoring the wishes of the master.   We may not fall back to blatant sin, but we become so wrapped up in ourselves and the cares of this world that we push the second coming of Jesus and the results thereof to the back of our minds and live a life in pursuit of fulfilling our own personal desires; be they good or bad.

A perfect biblical example of this is Simon the sorcerer.  Simon wanted to dispense the Holy Ghost not because he had an interest in furthering the Kingdom of God but to hold on to his position within his community.  This is not a heavenly mindset.  A heavenly mindset is a mind that is focused on the soon coming of Jesus and our entrance into heaven.

When Apostle Paul talks about Jesus’s coming, he also mentions our natural appearance being transformed into a glorious one.  We’ll have glorified bodies when Jesus comes.   Our natural body will be transformed into a spiritual body!

So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:  It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:  It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.  1 Corinthians 15:42–44

The reality of Jesus’s second coming and our appearance with him in glory affects us on a level that we can barely imagine. John said,

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.  And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.   1 John 3:2–3

Every believer who has this earnest expectation purifies himself. The second coming of Jesus and our future glory should make us purify our thoughts, our conversations, and our daily endeavors. It transforms us.

For this reason Satan is always after the believers' minds. He realizes that if he can turn them away from heavenly things, he can turn us toward earthly things.

“For as he thinks within himself, so he is”   Proverbs 23:7

The earthlier we think, the more earthly we become. Our enemy is especially after the believer’s mind as it concerns the future. He will have one think about graduate school, marriage or divorce, retirement, and anything else; let alone sin issues, rather than Jesus’s return and our glorious future with him. Satan understands that anybody who has this hope in heaven purifies themselves

What you think about the future affects how you live today!  One way to keep an unwavering focus on Jesus’ coming is to keep your thoughts on things above.

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.  Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.  Colossians 3:1-2

There are many things that we can do to keep our minds focused on the soon coming Jesus:

        Study of The End Times

“Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.”  Revelation 1:3

God has revealed it in His word to help us prepare for and have an eager expectation of the future. John says that there is a blessing on the one who reads, hears, and takes to heart the words of prophecy in the book of Revelation. Those who study Revelation and the doctrine of the end times have a double blessing. It helps them keep a heavenly mind, a mind consumed with and prepared for Jesus’s coming.

Sadly, the enemy has sown so much disagreement over the end times that many pastors never teach on it. And therefore, the members of the church miss out on the blessing it brings to our lives—they live with no eager expectation. Like the servant who thought his master delayed his coming, we often cast-off restraint and become consumed with our earthly life instead of our heavenly one. The scriptures related to end times are very important for us know so we can be ready for our Lord’s return. Jesus said,

“Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done”   Revelations. 22:12

In addition to studying God’s word on end times, we

Develop an Unwavering Focus on the resultant benefits of Jesus’s Crucifixion
We parallel our life to His by becoming a living sacrifice:

®        Focus on Our Crucified Position

“For you died, and your life is now hidden with Jesus in God”   Colossians 3:3

Apostle Paul says we died with Jesus and our life is now hidden in Jesus. For many, instead of thinking on the things of God, they are consumed with ungodly things like lust, anger, bitterness, jealousy, covetousness, etc. In order to have a heavenly mindset, we must reckon our death with Jesus. But, we must ask the questions, “What exactly did we die to?” and “How did we die?”

v  The Believer Died To Sin

If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been freed from sin   Romans 6:5–7

On the cross, our old nature was crucified with Jesus. It was crucified so that we could be freed from sin. We must understand this doctrine to walk in victory over lust, anger, depression, and any other sin that tries to control us. Apostle Paul says this should be our response to our death to sin:

“In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus”  Roman 6:11

He says to “count” or think about yourself differently. You are dead to sin but alive to God. This means that I can break habitual strongholds of sin. It means that I can start over when I fail because Jesus paid the penalty for my sins and broke the power of it.

For many, instead of thinking on the things of God they are consumed with ungodly things like lust, anger, bitterness, jealousy, covetousness, etc. In order to have a heavenly mindset, we must reckon our death to sin. We died with Jesus.

v  The Believer Died to Self

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life he cannot be my disciple.  And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.   Luke 14:26–27

Jesus says to follow him as a disciple, we must hate our life and take up our cross. This is a daily discipline. We die to ourselves, our desires, and our wants in order to submit to Jesus. We get a good picture of this with Jesus before going to the cross. He says, “Take this cup from me but nevertheless, your will be done” (Luke 22:42). He submitted his will to that of the Father and so must we.

Listen to Apostle Paul’s testimony of this:

“I have been crucified with Jesus and I no longer live, but Jesus lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me”   Galatians 2:20

For many people, they can’t have a heavenly mind because they are consumed with self instead of God. In order to develop a heavenly mindset, we must continually crucify ourselves—we must daily reckon ourselves dead to self and alive to God.

v  The Believer Died to This World

“May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world”  Galatians. 6:14

Apostle Paul said his death on the cross with Jesus also brought death to this world. He essentially said, “I am dead to the world and the things of the world. They no longer satisfy me. They no longer are my passions in life. My passion is to honor and to know Jesus. I am alive to God and dead to the world.”  John said,

“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him”   1 John 2:15

The very reason many cannot think on things above is because of worldliness. They are consumed with the things of this world: gaining them, enjoying them, and keeping them. If we are going to think on heavenly things, we must continually reckon ourselves dead to the things of this world so we can seek the things above.

v  The Believer Died to The Power Of The Devil

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ  even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved  Ephesians 2:1–5

In a very real sense, we died to Satan as well. Before salvation, Scripture says that we were children of the devil (1 John 3:10) and were following his ways (Ephesians. 2:2).  But now, as believers, we have become children of God and followers of his Word. We are dead to the devil and alive to God.

Satan, who works through sin, the flesh, and the world to tempt us, has no dominion over us anymore because we died to him. We should no longer submit to him or live in fear of him because he was defeated by Jesus

And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.  Colossians 2:15

However, it must be known that a person is a slave to whomever he submits to. We can still submit to sin, self, the world, and the devil. Apostle Paul said,

Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?   Romans 6:16

Therefore, as an act of the will, we must reject sin, selfishness, the world, and the devil to develop a heavenly mindset. We died with Jesus and now are hidden in him.  Believers are to live a crucified life.

The crucified life says, “Life is not about me. My life is not bound any longer to sin or my desires. Life is not about the things of the world. It is about Jesus.”  Apostle Paul said,

“to live is Jesus and to die is gain”  Philippians. 1:21

If we don’t understand the crucified life, then we will be consumed with the things of this world. We will find ourselves feverishly running after every fad that comes out. If we don’t understand the crucified life, we will become enslaved to our wants and desires and other things we were delivered from.

A person who is living a crucified life is not consumed with the everyday cares of this life; not always fighting and striving against things, life and people.  Like Jesus, a person who has reckoned his death has become the meek who will inherit the earth:

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.  Matthew 5:5

He recognizes that this world and his life is not his anymore. He was crucified with Jesus!
