* God's Peace Is Priceless

Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright:
for the end of that man is peace.
Psalms 37:37

Wisdom; the right use of knowledge, facilitates unity and peace.  Forgiveness of sin and healing brings us great peace of mind and body.  How is healing related to peace?  The word of God says:

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

Peace is what we long for:

We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble! Jeremiah 8:15

Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble!   Jeremiah 14:19

Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth.   Jeremiah 33:6

Peace and unity promote each other:

So the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he had promised him. And Hiram and Solomon were at peace and made a treaty.   1 Kings 5:12

For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.  Ephesians 2:14-18

Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:3

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:  And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.  Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.   James 5:14-16

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:  Hebrews 12:14

God gives His peace to those of a pure or righteous heart and mind. The transition from Old to New Testament usage of "peace" illustrates its personal application in our spiritual walk: Out of about 90 New Testament instances, 90% refer to heartfelt peace.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.  Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.  Philippians 4:6-9

Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.  But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.  2 Timothy 2:22-23

God's peace is an unfathomable and spiritual peace
that is not affected by the world.

We can have this peace, if we truly trust in God -

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.  Jeremiah 17:7

- and his redemptive plan for mankind, even as we are striving to produce His character and are obedient to His Word.

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; I do not give it to you as the world does. Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage.  John 14:27

I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering, but take courage - I have conquered the world.
 John 16:33

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.  Romans 8:6-9

Are peace and righteousness related? Absolutely! Righteousness produces peace with its qualities of quietness and assurance, but at the same time, peace provides the proper environment for righteousness to grow. One builds upon the other. A home without peace hinders the development of righteousness.

The mountains will bring news of peace to the people, and the hills will announce justice. Psalms 72:3

During his days the godly will flourish; peace will prevail as long as the moon remains in the sky.  Psalms 72:7

Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
  Psalms 85:10

For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.  Romans 14:17

How is this accomplished?

Fairness will produce peace and result in lasting security. Isaiah 32:17

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and not hypocritical. And the fruit that consists of righteousness is planted in peace among those who make peace.   James 3:17-18

But if the unbeliever wants a divorce, let it take place. In these circumstances the brother or sister is not bound. God has called you in peace.  1 Corinthians 7:15

Does peace require effort on our part?  Absolutely!  Making peace takes real effort! Although a gift from God through Christ, peace has to be sought.

And he must turn away from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.   1 Peter 3:11

Turn away from evil and do what is right! Strive for peace and promote it! Psalm 34:14

But glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, for the Jew first and also the Greek.  Romans 2:10

So then, let us pursue what makes for peace and for building up one another.  Romans 14:19

Therefore, dear friends, since you are waiting for these things, strive to be found at peace, without spot or blemish, when you come into his presence.   2 Peter 3:14

The pursuit of peace is not merely an elimination of discord, but peace is produced by conscious effort to overcome while asking God to grant it. By themselves, however, our efforts are not enough. Jesus Christ Himself will ultimately bring peace to all mankind.

For a child has been born to us, a son has been given to us.  He shoulders responsibility and is called:  Extraordinary Strategist, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  His dominion will be vast and he will bring immeasurable prosperity. He will rule on David's throne and over David's kingdom, establishing it and strengthening It by promoting justice and fairness, from this time forward and forevermore.  The LORD's intense devotion to his people will accomplish this.  Isaiah 9:6-7

The peace that Jesus offers comes only as the result of God's calling by His Spirit through which He works in and through us to bring us into loving submission to the way of peace. That is the way of talking and walking daily with God, coming to know intimately His faithful, loving use of His wisdom and power to complete His glorious purpose in our lives.   It produces a peace that passes all understanding because then everything is under perfect control.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
Romans 8:28-30
