Water Baptism in the name of Jesus

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way , the truth, and the life:
no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 14:6

Everything we do, according to the bible, is to be done in the name of Jesus. It stands to reason that baptism, a requirement, is done in the name of Jesus.

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.    John 3:5

Baptism is the process by which our sins are washed away.

It is defined as a religious sacrament marked by the symbolic use of water and resulting in admission of the recipient into the community of Christians.  A Christian sacrament signifying spiritual cleansing and rebirth. To be immersed in water.

Why should we be baptized?

For the remission of our sins. It is a vital part of the process of being born again.

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38

Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:   Romans 6:3-5

How should we be baptized?

In the Name of Jesus Christ

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:    Matthew 28:19

In the name of (not names; singular not plural); father and son are titles, not a name.  People thought that John the Baptist was the one but scripture lets us know that there is no other way to God but through Jesus!   Refer to:

  • John 1:21-14:25-34;
  • John 14:6-11;
  • John 10:30;
  • Acts 4:12;
  • Colossians 1:12-19;
  • I Timothy 3:16;
  • I John 5:7-12
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.   Acts 2:38

(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)   Acts 8:16

And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.   Acts 10:48

When they heard [this], they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.  Acts 19:5

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, [do] all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
 Colossians 3:17

The reason that we are baptized in Jesus’ name is that we are being baptized into Jesus. We are taking on his name, similar to the way a woman takes on her husband's name. We are saying that we belong to Jesus and we are identifying with Him in His death and burial. Jesus is the one who died for us.

Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?   I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;  Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.  1 Corinthians 1:13-15

If we follow Paul’s train of thought, the obvious implication is that it was Christ who was the one that was crucified for you and so we are baptized in the name of Christ"

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.  This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.  Acts 4:10-12

  1. Yes,
    Act 4:10  Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
    We are not baptised under titles, but, in a name Jesus

    Act 4:11  This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
    Act 4:12  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
